Be Honest is a collection of letters, vignettes, essays and speeches written by teenagers involved in 826 National, a non profit organization that operates free writing centers for children and teens across the country. With a forward by Neko Case and a lot of heart, kids talk to the adults in their lives regarding the state of education as they see it. Some are love letters to those teachers who said or did the right thing at the right time. A few are anonymous and bitter. All give a tiny, pin-hole look into what education looks like from a teen’s perspective. One of my favorites is a vignette that tells how the writer knew which teachers saw the movie Dead Poet’s Society and which teachers had not.
